Tree 3

"Tree 3" is the title of the spatial and site-specific light and sound installation realized by the painter Albert Oehlen in cooperation with the artist and music pioneer Wolfgang Voigt. Based on Oehlen's paintings of trees, which have been a recurring theme in his oeuvre since the 1980s, the work "Tree 3" brings together painting, music and space in three dimensions in the Gaiser Hochmoor. A real tree stands behind a large-format projection screen with a color gradient. Light pulses triggered by Wolfgang Voigt's bass drum make the tree visible in the sound. Albert Oehlen (* 1954) is a German painter, object and installation artist. He has been considered one of the protagonists of German neo-expressionism since the 1980s. Oehlen also stands for cooperation between artists and networking between the arts. His work is multimedia-oriented and includes paintings, drawings, collages and expansive installations. Painting is at the center of his work. The guiding principles of his method are impulse and eclecticism, while his tools are fingers, brushes, collages and computers. Oehlen treats abstraction as a gesture or geometry. He himself describes his oeuvre as "post-non-figurative" and at the same time describes the term as "silly". Wolfgang Voigt (* 1961) is an artist, music producer and co-founder of the Cologne-based electronic and techno label Kompakt. Under a number of project names and pseudonyms, Wolfgang Voigt has continued to vary his own unmistakable musical style since the early 90s. In 1996, his album "Love Inc. - Life's a Gas", based on pop-historical quotations, was named album of the year by the music magazine "Spex". In his interdisciplinary work, he increasingly brings art and music together in a project-specific way.
