The work of Zurich-based composer, sound artist and art researcher Cathy van Eck (* 1979) revolves around the interrelationships between everyday objects, people and sounds. She often uses microphones and loudspeakers as a kind of "musical instrument". Her artistic work includes performances with live electronics and interactive installations with self-designed sound objects. In her "performative sound art", she combines elements of the performing arts, electronic music and the visual arts and uses electronic means to relate gestures to sounds. Cathy van Eck often works on an interdisciplinary basis with theater makers and choreographers. She has been a lecturer at the Department of Sound Art at Bern University of the Arts since 2007. The installation "What we keep" by Cathy van Eck is presented in collaboration with the Festival Neue Musik Rümlingen, which is making a guest appearance in Appenzellerland this year. Van Eck's work can be seen at the Zeughaus Teufen following KLANG MOOR SCHOPFE from September 13 to 16.
