British musician Barry Guy, who lives in eastern Switzerland, is one of the world's most innovative double bass players and composers. His multifaceted creativity and love of experimentation have made him a major innovator in improvised music. He is the founder and artistic director of the London Jazz Composers Orchestra, for which he has composed several major works. As a soloist, Barry Guy has radically expanded the technique of double bass playing and set new standards. Musicians such as Evan Parker, Jürg Wickihalder, Marilyn Crispell, Lucas Niggli, Ramon Lopez and Mats Gustafsson value him as a long-standing partner in a wide variety of formations and projects.
