The two brothers André and Michel Décosterd from Le Locle are among the most renowned and unconventional sound artists in Switzerland. While André (* 1967) originally trained as an organ builder and then studied at the EJMA, the Ecole de Jazz et de Musique Actuelle, in Lausanne, specializing in programmed music and algorithmic composition, Michel (* 1969) is a qualified architect and visual artist. The two have been working together artistically under the name Cod.Act since 1997: In an almost scientific way, they search for a synthesis of movement, sound and mechanics in their expansive kinetic sound sculptures and installations, with the music emerging from the movement in each case. Cod.Act's works are presented worldwide in renowned art spaces and at important festivals such as Ars Electronica in Linz and the Japan Media Arts Festival in Tokyo. In 2019, the duo was awarded the Swiss Music Prize.
