Crochet / Chroma
Fascinated by the phenomena and history of optical sound, Dutch artist Mariska de Groot (*1982) builds, performs and composes extensive analog light-sound instruments and installations that explore this technology in new ways. In her work for the festival, she focuses on Eastern Swiss textile craftsmanship. In her "cinematographic" musical installation "Crochet / Chroma", which appeals to all the senses, she uses lace designed by her and produced on old machines in the Saurer Museum in Arbon, allowing kinetics and old-fashioned textile art to meet in a surprising way. The work is part of de Groot's ongoing research into wave motion and the interference between frequencies and patterns. The artist was generously supported in her research and in the realization of the installation by the TaDA - Textile and Design Alliance funding program and the Saurer Museum.
