Taasäsaft - Re-fresh, rhythmic drip, a sip

The joint performances, installations and exhibitions by Thurgau artist Rahel Kraft and Japanese sound artist Tomoko Hojo are dedicated to hidden, quiet and intimate sounds that are often barely perceptible in the relationship between people, places and history. Auditory memories, performative field recordings, the sound of snow and rivers, silence and close listening in the multi-layered translation between Japanese, English and German form an important background for their site-specific and research-based works. For their installation "Taasäsaft - Re-fresh, rhythmic drip, a sip" at the Museum Gais, they intensively explored the history of Gais as a whey spa town, which is recalled by the spa buildings on the village square. They explored the cheese dairy by-product whey, the containers used in cheese production, the hidden work that was done in the spas, the goat that supplied the milk and the dairyman who transported the fresh goat whey for miles. The artists can be found on the hiking trails between the village and the moor throughout the festival. With daily appearances as Schotten-Emmas, where they distribute sound and whey, they bring the story of Schotten-Sepp (Anton Josef Inauen (1725-1791), a legendary dairyman who carried the fresh whey in the Tanse from Seealpsee to Gais, to life.
